Join us for the final stage of the Wealdway, from Berwick to Eastbourne, a fitting crescendo to the walk all the way from the River Thames at Gravesend! The walk will be brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour) and a bit hilly at times, with a few steeper sections, including a steep descent on Beachy Head towards the end of the walk.
Today's route connects through a whole series of highlights, passing close to the imposing Long Man of Wilmington, the attractive church at Folkington, the village of Jevington and the scenic chalk cliffs at Beachy Head, with views of the lighthouse and across Eastbourne. Our route finishes at the pier in Eastbourne, the formal end of the Wealdway after heading along the promenade in Eastbourne.
Please bring a packed lunch - we will stop close to Jevington (it may be possible to nip into the Eight Bells for a drink and to use the loo). There are no other toilets en-route but plenty of natural options should nature call.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Duke of Devonshire pub close to Eastbourne station.
Exit points: Option to take the Coaster bus down into Eastbourne from the golf club on Beachy Head.
Travel: Take the 08:54 train from London Victoria towards Eastbourne, calling at Clapham Junction at 09:01, East Croydon at 09:10, arriving Lewes at 10:02. From Lewes, switch to the 10:13 train to Eastbourne, arriving at Berwick at 10:25.
