Join us for the fifth, penultimate and longest stage of the Wealdway, from Uckfield to Berwick, continuing our journey which eventually goes all the way to Eastbourne on the South Coast! The walk will be brisk (2.5-3 miles/hour) and a bit undulating in the morning, but flatter after lunch with just enough ups and downs to afford good views.
Today's route connects a whole string of attractive villages, passing through East Hoathly, Chiddingly, Hellingly and Upper Dicker, while skirting around the relative metropolis of Hailsham. Along the way we pass a whole host of attractive oast houses, churches and barns, and skirt around the Cuckmere River in the afternoon before walking close to the Arlington Reservoir and finishing our walk in Berwick for the train back to London.
Please bring a packed lunch - we will stop close to Chiddingly. There are no toilets en-route but plenty of natural options should nature call.
At the end of the walk, for those that wish to stay on for a drink, there is an option to stop off at The Berwick Inn pub close to Berwick station.
