This walk uses paths that follow the river as closely as possible without too much deviation or repetition. The route visits Manchester and Salford City Centres, the Meadows, Peel Park and Salford University and when it is on riverside walkways you should be aware that these may be slippery or unsurfaced in places.
If you are interested in walks that follow the River Irwell, you might be interested in following "Our Irwell" which is a small group that has been set up to promote and campaign for improved public access to the riverside and to highlight blockages and problems with existing rights of way along or near the riverbank.
