There is a limit of 20 people for this walk and booking is essential. Please email to book.
All the hard walking is right at the start. After a small bit of road walking we ascend 400 ft over 3/4 mile and then a further 60 ft over 1.5 miles to the maximum height of 714 ft. After that the rest of the route is undulating but gradually descending. Most of the walk is either wooded (with possible spring flowers) or open with fine views over the Downs. We pass several WWII pill boxes and St Barnabas' Church designed by Sir Gilbert Scott of St Pancras Station fame. The final part of the walk descends through the Denbies Wine Estate (but the vines are looking a bit uninspiring at the moment) ending with a small bit of road walking to Dorking Station.
There are two trains an hour to Victoria at :17 & :43 past the hour and one train an hour to Waterloo at :32 past the hour. (These times are not guaranteed!).
You need to bring a packed lunch and note: there are no drop out points.
Catch the 08:45 from Waterloo arriving at Guildford at 09:23. Change for the 09:37 to Gomshall from platform 5 arriving at Gomshall at 09:52. Buy a single to Gomshall and a single from Dorking to London.
It could be cold and windy on the Downs and if it has been raining recently then parts of it can be very muddy. Walking boots are essential and a pole is useful.
There are no toilets at Gomshall.
