Overview

A moderately paced 11 mile walk in the Hertfordshire countryside with plenty of variety: common land, a new forest, historic churches, Childwickbury Estate (film maker Stanley Kubrick lived and worked here) plus the lovely city of St Albans.  Terrain includes substantial areas of level ground with a few modest inclines. Expect mud in parts so walking boots advised.  A couple of busy roads to cross.

Lunch:  in Sandridge Village.  Please bring picnic.  Pub/cafe for drinks and toilets.

Travel:  St Pancras 9.21, West Hampstead 9.29 (Thameslink train to Bedford).  Buy off-peak day return to Harpenden.

Toilets use toilets on train and/or station.
