The route goes up Haltwhistle Burn towards Cawfields on Hadrian's Wall. From there, we head north through fields to Edges Green and west to Benkshill before dropping down to Aesica Roman fort and crossing through farmland on our way back to the burn. The terrain is a mix of woodland paths, field paths, quiet country roads and farm roads.

Meet at Haltwhistle Burn car park, Willia Road. This is a small car park but there is parking on the surrounding roads.
