From Watermillock church we gradually ascend towards Gowbarrow passings through Swinburn's Park.
There are great views of the surrounding hills and Ullswater on a clear day. Our route continues along the path down the hillside to the viewpoint at Memorial Seat.
We follow the trail that takes us to the waterfalls and cascades of Aira Force with its 65ft drop and the lesser falls beyond. From there we leave the falls behind and head up to the summit of Gowbarrow Fell returning to Watermillock church via Great Meldrum.
The terrain can be a challenge especially in wet weather. Extra time and care should be taken as the paths, especially around the waterfalls, can be wet and slippery.
Parking: On the roadside directly outside the Watermillock church is only room for about five parked cars.
