The walk starts in the free car park at the top of Murton Village. We ford Murton Beck (an alternative route is possible if there is too much water in the beck). We climb Blue Hill and traverse the east side of Gasdale and walk around Gasdale Head and on to Murton Pike (594m / 1810 feet). If the day is clear there are almost 360 degree view of Mallerstang, Howgills, Lakes and Northern Pennines.
We descend to Harbour Flat and past Keisley and through Flakebridge Wood where, hopefully, the blue bells will be putting on a fine display. We return to Flakebridge via Shepherd's cottage.
There may be a small amount of bog. The path up part of the side of Gasdale is not very well defined and a bit tussocky.

Refreshments are available afterwards in Appleby, 4 miles away.
