A walk in the countryside above and around the picturesque village of Crosby Ravensworth, with wonderful views throughout. We start by climbing northwest from Crosby Hall farm, through fields and pastures and a former plantation, before visiting the Thunder Stone, a granite erratic precariously perched on the edge of a small quarry. We then cross more pastureland to the tiny hamlet of Hardendale and beyond it ascend to Hardendale Nab, a row of six cairns, although until fairly recently there was only one cairn! After walking along the top of the Nab to admire the view beyond the M6 to Wet Sleddale, we descend to join the Coast to Coast path by Hardendale quarry, and continue to the edge of the hamlet of Hardendale before turning off on a track on the edge of Crosby Fell all the way back to Crosby Ravensworth, where we pass one of Andy Goldsworthy's famous pinfolds and return to our cars.
The walk is on mainly good paths and tracks, and is over pastureland which may have sheep with lambs, so please keep dogs on a lead. There may well be several muddy stretches, quite a few stiles and some fairly steep ascents. The walk will be at a moderate pace.
