Overview

From Orton Village we ascend Orton Scar then on to Beacon Hill Monument. We cross Great Asby Scar Nature Reserve with vast views across to the Lake District, the Pennines and the Howgills and then onto Sunbiggin Tarn a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The return to Orton is using the Wainright's Coast to Coast route with an option to visit the ancient Gamelands Stone circle just before heading back into Orton.

This walk uses bridleways, footpaths and quiet country lanes. Can be muddy in places.
