Overview

Ashford Ramblers 2025 South Downs weekend, commences with a Friday 12-mile hike over the iconic Seven Sisters.

Leaving Birling Gap on the South Downs Way, we start the ups and downs over the springy grassy turf of the famous Seven Sisters, although there are actually eight in total! The views are wonderful, and the progress is straightforward, albeit it is a good workout, until we drop down to Cuckmere Haven.

After a stretch of beach we join the Vanguard Way, heading inland towards Exceat and the Seven Sisters Country Park. Our route climbs once more on the South Downs Way, up the hillside of Friston Forest, then descends a long flight of steps to the unspoilt village of Westdean. We make a brief detour to visit the quaint church, before continuing onward to go round Friston Place, then over Went Hill to complete this wonderful walk.

With approximately 1500 foot of ascent, you will need to rest well, before the weekend continues tomorrow with our Saturday walk from Alfriston.

Walk leader is Kevin Hall
