With a few of the regulars intending to participate in the "Five Churches Walk" on May Day, our group walk will therefore take place on Saturday this week, which will allow a rest day, before tackling the 16-mile circuit on Monday.
Our leisurely walk from Hothfield church, will therefore be on the short side at around 7.5 miles, so should appeal to those who prefer a shorter distance than our usual main weekend walk, whilst those doing the "Five churches", can consider it a pre-charity walk warm-up.
On leaving the church, the route initially takes the Greensand Way (GW) towards Hothfield, until we meet the Stour Valley Walk (SVW), this section includes a short stretch of road, which we leave on reaching Ripper's Cross.
Continuing on the SVW towards Worten, which we later leave on a path to join Ninn Lane, making our way to Great Chart. We return once more to the SVW/GW, which briefly share the same route, as we head up Chart Ave, whilst we stay on the GW for our return to Hothfield church. We will however, briefly take a short detour to view the tranquil Hothfield lake and waterfall just before the finish, which is a lovely spot to tarry for a few minutes.
Although a short walk, we will still have our usual picnic lunch, mostly likely at Great Chart Cricket pitch.
