This is a 10.5 mile walk, that starts from the tiny hamlet of Rolvenden Layne, which lies one mile south Rolvenden. The enjoyable route over the surrounding undulating countryside heads towards Tenterden, as well as passing through a section of the Hole Park Estate.
We commence our circuit along the High Weald Landscape Trail (HWLT), which is a well signposted 89-mile route that runs from Horsham in the Western High Weald, to historic Rye. We have followed sections of the HWLT before on previous group walks, including this stretch which crosses the Kent & East Sussex Railway en route to Tenterden.
We then turn in a westerly direction close to West View Hospital & Heronden Hall, to make progress to Halden Place, before a short stretch of road walking follows. The route meanders along to eventually reach Hole Park, which is set in over 200 acres of classic parkland. We might even catch an early glimpse of the bluebells, which the gardens are famous for. They are most definitely well worth visiting during the bluebell season, if you get the opportunity.
The final stretch of this delightful exploration of the Kentish High Weald, takes the group through Rolvenden, to join once more the HWLT on reaching the church. From which we pass through the Wilderness, beside Great Maytham Hall, then on reaching Little Jobs Cross, we are then soon back at Rolvenden Layne.
As always we will have our short picnic lunch stop, whilst the Ewe & Lamb, for a post walk drink is situated at the finish of our walk.
