Along the north bank of the estuary, points of interest include Tilbury Fort, Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury Marshes, West Tilbury Church and the site of QE1’s speech to the English fleet, WWII radar station and bunkers, Thurrock Thameside Nature Park, Mucking Flats SSSI (part of Thames Estuary & Marshes SPA), Mucking Church. Lunch stop at Coalhouse Fort where there are picnic tables and a cafe, and a chance for a cup of tea at Thurrock visitor centre towards the end of the walk.

Take the 10.41 from Fenchurch Street, arrives Tilbury Town at 11.20. Buy a return to Stanford le Hope or a c2c senior rover ( a cheap off peak fare is available from c2c).
