Leaving Godalming by the River Wey and then on through fields and woodlands to Compton and the Watts Gallery and Chapel. G F Watts was an admired Victorian artist - a portraitist, landscape painter and sculptor. Mary Watts was a renowned designer, founder of the Compton Pottery and creator of Watts Chapel.
We will stop to view the chapel and then there will be an extended lunch break of 90 minutes at the gallery, to allow time to view the historic galleries, the contemporary gallery and the sculpture gallery.
We then follow the North Downs Way back to the River Wey and into Guildford. Please note: the morning’s walk will be muddy after rainfall, with slippery surfaces and some steps. We will take those sections slowly. Poles are advised.
NB. Entrance fee payable, full price £13.50. Reductions for students, Art Fund members and those travelling by train. Please see website www.wattsgallery.org.uk/visit for full list of other reductions and prices.
