Overview

NOTE CHANGE OF DATE DUE TO PROPOSED RAIL STRIKE ON 29 JULY 2023

A walk that is inspired by King Harold’s march to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harold was crowned King of England on 6th January 1066. This set in motion a chain of events from the Battle of Stamford Bridge and ended in defeat at the Battle of Hastings.

Come and join me on the 100th walk I have led for Capital Walkers since my first led walk in September 2020. We start at Maidstone and walk along the River Medway to leave Maidstone before entering the Loose Valley Conservation Area. There is a climb up the Quarry Hills and a walk along the ragstone ridge between the North Downs and the Weald, The descent into the Weald is along the route of the old Roman road into the mainly arable and grazing land.

Please note that there are several stiles. One stile is broken and therefore it is very high to get over ( alternative route investigated and it would involve long road walking on busy A road). Also after broken stile - path for half a mile not maintained - very overgrown and uneven for a section of roughly half a mile)

Lunch stop in Loose, pub for drinks only . Please bring a packed lunch as we will not be having a long lunch break to order a pub lunch.

No drop out points.

No booking required.

The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
