Setting forth from Bridge End as the sun emerges above the ridges, casting its pale amber light upon the fells, we embark on our journey. Our destination is the hallowed, brooding solitude of Deepdale—a vale shrouded in tales both geological and mystical. Our course is ambitious: to traverse its depths and behold the audacious, formidable silhouette of Pinnacle Ridge, thrusting skyward with insolent elegance.
We aim to complete our circuit by way of the famed Elmhow Zigzags—a marvel of ingenuity and a testament to the shepherds who carved these switchbacks into the steep fellside. The serpentine path, cunningly devised, carries us downward with an efficiency that belies the precipitous slope, each turn unveiling new vistas. Ullswater shimmers in the distance, its waters silvered by the sinking sun, while the fells around us are cloaked in the purple hues of encroaching dusk.
