Overview

This recce walk is for everyone who would like to experience the planning and recce of a walk - whether it be for yourself or to lead a walk for Capital Walkers.

We will meet outside Manor Park Station (Elizabeth Line) in East London before walking to Wanstead Flats where Epping Forest begins. Passing Leyton Flats, we continue through the southern reaches of this ancient forest to The Royal Hunting Lodge. From here it is a short walk to Chingford Station (Overground Weaver Line) with regular trains back towards Central London.

This is an 8 mile walk over slightly undulating and possibly muddy terrain. It will be at a moderate pace of 2 miles an hour to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate or even to try out your hand at leading if you would like to for a short time. Please bring lunch, drinks are available at Highams Park where we will shall stop for lunch.

There will also be an opportunity to pause at the end of the walk and discuss the recce walk or simply enjoy a drink with friends at the Station House pub adjacent to Chingford Station.

There is no need to book for this event.

Sorry, but no dogs today.

For those who would like to experience this as a recce walk please feel free to contact Angela - walkleading@capitalwalkers.org.uk to access a GPX file which will enable you to follow this walk on OS maps on your phone. A paper map and walk guide is also available.
