Walking in the Lake District
Lake District Area covers the whole of Cumbria and the northern part of Lancashire, including the Lake District National Park and a small part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
We have about 1600 members in six local groups based on Carlisle, Furness, Grange-over-Sands, Kendal, Lancaster, and Penrith. An eighth group, Summitt Good, caters for people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s throughout the area.
Our walks
Lake District Area organises about 700 walks each year for its members. Visitors who are interested in the Ramblers are welcome to join us on these walks.
The Gordon Walker Chalet
The Gordon Walker Chalet in the Newlands Valley provides cheap self-catering accommodation for up to 16 people (eight men and eight women). It is open for a small charge to any member of the Ramblers or of an affiliated club. Find more information here.
