There are three options to this walk. All are on grassy paths, country and woodland tracks, and through fields. The longest version is over Dufton Pike, the other two options go around the Pike. All three options go on tracks back towards Dufton. Ascending the Pike gives extensive, panoramic views of the North Pennines and the Lakeland Fells.
The shortest walk goes directly back to Dufton, making it 4.5ml and 1,000ft of ascent.
Both the other options continue through Dufton Ghyll Woods, across fields and back through the woods to Dufton. The longest walk is 7.5ml and 1,580ft, missing out the climb of the Pike reduces it to 7 ml and 1,200ft This is a moderate walk at a leisurely pace.
The main walk includes Dufton Pike but at a slow pace, this is an easy, steady climb. The alternatives give options for those wanting a shorter walk or less ascent.
