Starting at the village of Threlkeld, this walk initially uses a well defined footpath, with several stiles, to reach the settlement of Wescoe. We then switch to a section of quiet metalled road, that ends at Derwentfold. A gate takes us onto another well defined footpath , gradually descending to a footbridge, where we cross a tributary of the River Greta. After a shrt climb, we reach another metalled road and shortly after, we pass the property of Brundholme.
Another short downhill stretch, brings us to the final section of the walk, making use of the former Penrith to Keswick railway line, for our return to Threlkeld.
The first section of this walk, provides good views across the valley, towards the fells of Clough Head, Calfhow Pike and down the valley of St. John's in the Vale.
Later in the walk, whilst on the Penrith to Keswick railway path, there is an opportunity to learn a little more about the history of the railway, from several interpretation boards, on the side of the old track.
