Starting in Glenridding village, this walk uses the quiet road to Glenridding Youth Hostel. The walk continues on the other side of Glenridding Beck, using a well defined footpath that takes us, to Lanty's Tarn. From the tarn, a footpath descends to a metalled road, under Grassthwaite Howe. The metalled road is then followed to the junction with A592, at Grisedale Bridge. The route then heads back towards Glenridding village, using the roadside footpath.
A walk using a combination of quiet roads and well defined footpaths.
On the section heading back to Glenridding, above Glenridding Beck, weather permitting, there are fine views of the village, Ullswater and the fells to the east, of the lake.
Lanty's Tarn provides an opportunity to visit, one of the many likely locations, used by Lanty Slee, Farmer, Quarryman and notorious Smuggler, to distil illicit whisky.
