This is an 8 mile walk through the beautiful Sherwood Forest. The walk lasts 4 hours and the pace is moderate. There are no stiles. There will not be much mud as the area has sandy soil. You will need to take drinks and a packed lunch.
Please wear covering on your arms and legs as there will be ticks about in the forest as it is summer. If you bring a dog, keep the dog on a lead and check for ticks after the walk has finished.
We meet at the RSPB Visitor Centre and go west along the edge of the forest, then north, and east, back through Budby South Forest. On the way back we see the Major Oak.
There are toilets and a cafe at the Visitor Centre, which opens at 10.00a.m. I think that the Arts and Crafts Centre about 100 yards from the Visitor Centre is open earlier and has toilets.
If you would like to join this walk please contact the leader using the email link.
The car park is an RSPB car park, and is free if you are an RSPB member and put your card inside near the windscreen. Otherwise the car park costs £5 per day, so bring some £1 coins.
The post code is for the Visitor Centre as the post code for the car park is not quite accurate.
Directions: if you come through Edwinstowe Village, follow the signs to Sherwood Forest. About one quarter of a mile outside Edwinstowe, cross a zebra crossing. The car park is on your right, the entrance being about 100 yards away. To come to the Visitor Centre, cross that zebra crossing and walk up and the Visitor Centre in on your Right. You have to go down a track and we will meet by the cafe entrance on the lower floor of the Centre.
Unfortunately there is no suitable bus to the Visitor Centre from Nottingham on a Sunday.
