BOROUGH GREEN TO SEVENOAKS- MEMORIAL WALK FOR FELICITY KERR
JOINT WALK WITH CROYDON RAMBLERS AND SOUTH BANK RAMBLERS
Felicity Kerr passed away in November 2024. Felicity used to lead ramblers for Croydon Ramblers and South Bank Ramblers and often walked with Capital Walkers. I am leading a memorial walk for Felicity and it is one of her signature walks.
This ramble begins in Borough Green, leading you through peaceful woods and along gentle streams to the historic village of Plaxtol, known for its Cromwellian church built during the Commonwealth period. The journey continues through the park of Fairlawne House, bringing you to Ightham Mote, a stunning moated medieval manor, where we will stop for lunch . You can enjoy lunch at the National Trust café (normally there is big queue) or have a picnic.
Afterward, the route meanders through orchards, past a new lavender farm, and along shaded woodland paths, culminating in the expansive Knole Park. Here, you can explore the grand Knole House, nestled within a picturesque deer park. The walk concludes with a descent to Sevenoaks, where we will stop at the Sennockian - a JD Wetherspoons Pub, 139 High Street, Sevenoaks TN13 1UX . Alternatively you can head downhill to Sevenoaks railway station.
Be sure to wear appropriate footwear, as some bridleways, especially between Basted and Plaxtol, can become quite muddy (especially after rain).
