A bluebell walk starting on the outskirts of London and continuing through countryside to Oxted in Surrey. We begin with the grassy Riddlesdown ridge with views to our left of the Caterham valley where we may see gliders operating out of Kenley airfield on the other side of the valley. We will walk across the Sanderstead/Whyteleafe countryside area then traverse a main road to enter Kings Wood. This ancient woodland should be carpeted with bluebells at this time of year. We will follow pleasant paths to a lunch break at Warlingham Green. There's a choice of pubs, but please bring a packed lunch or buy something from one of the small supermarkets in the area as we will not be stopping long enough to order a pub meal.
Public toilets are also available.
It is possible to shorten the walk here at the 6 mile point by taking the 403 tfl bus back to Croydon stations. After lunch there are further bluebell woods then a very steep descent - poles may be useful - followed by a steady climb up to the North Downs ridge before another steep descent down to Oxted. There's a Wetherspoons pub right next to the station if refreshments are desired.
