This is a pleasant flat trail which offers a canal, tranquil woodland, picturesque countryside and a river over 7miles/11 km.
Starting from Stanstead St Margarets Station we will follow the canal to the Great Amwell Nature Reserve before pass through farmland and a bridge over the River Ash. Following a country loop to Ware with landscape views we shall have lunch at the playground.
Please bring a picnic lunch and a seating mat.
Following lunch Ware Town is a 15 minute walk where we shall stop at The Waterside pub for a toilet break. We then join a section of the New River Path which leads back to St Margarets. There is a pub, The Jolly Fisherman close to the station for those who would like to stay for refreshments.
Travel details:
Take the 09.42 train from London Liverpool Street arriving at St Margarets at 10.21. There are regular trains returning to London Liverpool Street at xx.17 and xx.47 past the hour.
Buy a return ticket to Stanstead St Margarets, Hertfordshire.
Limited free parking on Lawrence Avenue. Off peak daily £4.60 parking at the small St Margarets Station car park. No public toilets at St Margarets.
