PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF START POINT
A winter walk, starting at Askham, we walk uphill through the village onto to Riggingleys Top and Heughscar hill, with wonderful views over Ullswater, before descending to visit the Cockpit, then continue past the Cop Stone, see photo, and on via Helton to cross the river Lowther and up to the hamlet of Whale, before returning to Askham.
The walk is on good paths and tracks, with some boggy sections, especially after rain. It will be done at a moderate pace. Dogs must be kept on a lead on the short sections of farmland owned by the Lowther estate.
