Helvellyn Skyline

Once parked up at Legburthwaite (at our finishing point!), we will be taking a short bus journey to Dunmail Raise bus stop/lay-by. This will be via the 555 bus at 08.43am. We will start walking at approximately 9am from Dunmail Raise and ascend to the Helvellyn massif via the path alongside Raise Beck to Grisedale Tarn and continue to our first top of the day, Dollywaggon Pike. The walk from here takes in the wonderful Helvellyn plateau visiting Nethermost Pike, Helvellyn itself, Lower Man, White Side and finally the lovey rocky top of Raise before descending down Sticks Pass. Along the way, we will have extensive views as well taking a look at Striding and Swirral Edges and the dramatic Nethermost, Brown and Keppel Coves. This is a challenging walk on very good paths which will be taken at a moderate pace. NB: the walk can be reversed depending on the prevailing winds and if the weather is going to be particularly poor, an alternative walk will be offered and this one saved for a better day!
