A short walk linking five green spaces in South London all having views of the Central London skyline with some walking on quiet urban roads in between. Not really a challenge for regular walkers, but obviously there are some hills involved!
The first peak is Telegraph Hill Park followed by atmospheric Nunhead Cemetery, the highest point of which has an unobstructed view through a gap in the trees to St Paul's Cathedral. One Tree Hill is next then Blythe Hill Fields before a descent to follow the River Ravensbourne with a final ascent up Hilly Fields and down to Brockley.
Please note there will be no prolonged breaks on the walk as we will be finished by lunchtime. You could bring a packed lunch to have in the pedestrianised area next to Brockley station before heading home or there is a Wetherspoons pub along with some independent cafés close by.
The terrain is tarmac, pavement or rough gravel tracks so no need to worry about mud. Plenty of opportunities to cut the walk short as Honour Oak Park, Catford and Ladywell stations are all passed along with a number of bus stops.
Travel: Take the 10.03 from Victoria arriving Nunhead 10.19. Both start and finishing stations are in Zone 2.
Please make use of toilets at Victoria station as there are no facilities at Nunhead and probably none on the train. There are some public toilets at Ladywell park about 4 miles into the walk.
There are regular return trains from Brockley on the Windrush line northbound to Highbury and Islington with connections to the tube at Canada Water, the Elizabeth line at Whitechapel plus other options.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate and depends on a number of factors including the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
