Welcome to Shropshire Area Ramblers! Our groups cover the entire county, offering a wide range of fantastic walks and events throughout the year.
Shropshire is a beautiful rural county bordering Wales. It’s famous for the dramatic high moorland of the Long Mynd, the long wooded escarpment of Wenlock Edge, the historic Severn Gorge at Ironbridge, the ancient rocky spine of the Stiperstones, and the Wrekin; the prominent hill which forms the gateway to the Shropshire Hills; an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There’s also the vibrant town of Shrewsbury to enjoy with its numerous shops, riverside pubs/bars and cafes, plus a castle and theatre, as well as smaller towns and villages such as the picturesque Church Stretton and Bishops Castle.
There really is something for everyone, whether you are a new resident in Shropshire or just visiting.
Walking in Shropshire is great for all ages, backgrounds and abilities. We offer a programme of very varied walks throughout the week from short strolls to longer hikes, either around the Shropshire Hills, the more northerly Shropshire Plain or for more challenging terrain, the Welsh Borders and the rugged Snowdonia National Park.
Our groups also organise exciting weekends away, including the Welsh Coast and the Lake District. Social events also take place regularly, such as pub meals, nights out, camping and canoeing to name just a few, and all good fun!
As Ramblers we campaign to protect and improve our footpaths within Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, with groups carrying out vital maintenance work to ensure paths stay open and accessible for everyone.
